Returning to England, Dido Twite is imprisoned by Baron Rudh and witnesses some macabre murders. For there’s a plot afoot to land an invasion force on the south coast and Dido is to lead them to her good friend Simon Battersea and King Richard, who is rumoured to be on his deathbed.
