Giles Whittell
Giles was chief leader-writer for The Times for 25 years and was previously the paper’s correspondent in Los Angeles, Moscow and Washington. His books include Bridge of Spies, Spitfire Women of World War II and The Greatest Raid: St Nazaire 1942, The Heroic Story of Operation Chariot. Two earlier books, Lambada Country and Extreme Continental, describe his travels by bike and motorbike through Eastern Europe and Central Asia during the collapse of the Soviet Union. He published Snow: The Biography, with Short Books. After 25 years with The Times, he joined Tortoise Media as World Affairs Editor.
