Leila Rasheed was born in Birmingham to parents from Bangladesh and Barnsley.
At the age of two her family moved to Libya, where she grew up in the beautiful city of Benghazi. As an adult, she has lived and worked in Brussels and rural southern Italy, but now lives in Birmingham with her Danish husband and their child.
She teaches writing in universities and is the director of the Megaphone writer development scheme, which supports new children’s writers from minority ethnic backgrounds. She is passionate about children’s literature, travel, history, heritage and supporting marginalised writers.
