Denise Forrester is a changeling child, ignored by her depressive and emotionally distant mother and cared for by her pipe-smoking grandmother, who fills her head with dark tales of lives gone bad. To escape the confines of her granny’s Glasgow flat and the ghost stories told close to a too- hot gas fire, Denise creates her own imaginary world: Eulalia. Brought to life with a papier-mâché model and peopled with a cast of real and imaginary characters, Eulalia allows Denise to make sense of the world around her. But one day the past and the present collide and the consequences for Denise are devastating.
