Job Opportunity – Translation Rights Assistant

AM Heath are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and organised assistant to join its dynamic rights team. The successful candidate will have a sharp eye for detail and will be confident managing a high volume of work. This would be a fantastic first job for someone wanting to learn more about selling international rights, and who is keen to build their network in the publishing industry, whilst developing their administrative skills.


General rights support

Responding to general translation queries

Supporting the rights team with preparation of sales materials (e.g. newsletters, review summaries & publicity roundups) for international publishers, scouts and co-agents

Liaising with agents, authors and publishers about covers, author photos and reviews

Ordering and sending out production and foreign author copies of books

Updating the website with new translation rights sales

Some general office duties

Book fairs & trips

Book fair preparation: creating the rights catalogue and hotlist for book fairs, scheduling meetings, logging post-fair interest on our database, attending some book fairs

Arranging schedules for any international trips

Contracts, accounts & systems

Contract processing: sending out contracts for signature, logging/saving contracts on our system, chasing contracts, sending reversion letters

Tax forms: sending to authors and publishers, chasing late forms, ensuring that tax forms are accurately administered and recorded

Payments: invoicing signature and delivery advance payments, chasing money (advances & royalties)

Database management (Bradbury Phillips & our rights spreadsheet): logging interest and creating reports, updating foreign publisher profiles, checking reversions, overdue payments etc.

Knowledge, skills, experience

Someone with a keen interest in international publishing
A team player who is able to contribute positively to the whole department and agency
Great organisation & prioritisation skills
A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Good record-keeping and confidence in establishing and implementing new systems
Someone adaptable, with the ability to manage a sometimes heavy but varied workload
Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Excel in particular

Salary: £25,000
