Agent : Oli Munson
Mari was born in Westminster but moved to the north east as a child. Sponsored by the Home Office, she graduated from Teesside University before beginning a career as a Probation Officer. Her experience of working with offenders both in the community and in prisons informs and adds authenticity to her crime writing.
She spent several years working as a film/television scriptwriter. During that time she created and developed a number of projects, most notably a feature film and the pilot episode of a crime series for television based on the characters in her debut, The Murder Wall, the latter as part of the BBC’s drama development scheme.
She has two sons and lives in Northumberland with her partner, an ex-murder detective.
In 2010, she won the Northern Writers’ Award. The Murder Wall won the Polari First Book Prize 2013 and her body of work was shortlisted for the CWA Dagger in the Library 2014.
Her first five novels The Murder Wall, Settled Blood, Deadly Deceit, Monument to Murder and Killing for Keeps are published by Pan Macmillan.
A new novel, The Silent Room, will be published in autumn 2015.
