Charles Esdaile is one of Britain’s foremost Napoleonic historians. His name is particularly associated with his remarkable work on the war in Spain and Portugal, on which he has written several groundbreaking books, including The Peninsular War: A New History. He is Professor of History at the University of Liverpool and lives near Formby, with his wife and four children.
