Helen Cresswell

Helen Cresswell was born and educated in Nottinghamshire and went to King's College London where she read English. Her first book was published when she was in her mid 20s, and before her death she wrote over 100 more. She made her debut as a TV screenwriter in 1971 with Lizzie Dripping. Her work includes the Bagthorpe Chronicles, Mystery at Winkelsea and Stonestruck. She dramatised E Nesbit's The Phoenix and the Carpet and Allison Utley's Little Grey Rabbit novels for the BBC. She died in 2005.
