Kate Mayfield is a novelist and memoirist. Her debut novel The Parentations is a work of speculative historical fiction. Published by Point Blank, an imprint of Oneworld, it was longlisted for the HWA debut crown award and nominated for the Not the Booker Prize.
The Undertaker’s Daughter is a memoir about her childhood in the American South, published by Simon & Schuster UK and Gallery USA. Kirkus Reviews called it ‘a dark and sharply detailed memoir... Introspective and rich with personal revelation.’ Kate is the co-author of two non-fiction books, Ten Steps to Fashion Freedom and Ellie Hart Goes to Work, the latter of which was published in five languages.
After attending Western Kentucky University, Kate moved to Manhattan and graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She has made the UK her home where she has worked as an editor at a London independent publisher and has led reading groups in HM Prison Service.
