Parker Bilal is a pseudonym for Jamal Mahjoub. Born in London and brought up in Khartoum, Sudan, Mahjoub originally trained as a geologist and he has since written six critically acclaimed literary novels and been shortlisted and awarded a number of prizes. His works as Jamal include: In the Hour of Signs, Travelling with Djinns, The Carrier, and The Drift Latitudes. As Parker Bilal he writes the Inspector Makana crime series, six books set in Cairo and published by Bloomsbury. His new crime series begins with The Divinities, published in 2019. Jamal currently lives in the Netherlands.
