Robin Neillands was a journalist, writer and 'one of Britain's most readable military historians'. His book on the First World War, The Great War: Generals on the Western Front, was very well received and has become essential reading for anyone interested in the conflict. His other books include lively and revisionist accounts of D-Day, The Battle of Normandy and The Bomber War. Robin Neillands died in 2006.
