Sophie Coulombeau is a writer and academic. Brought up in Manchester, she was educated at Oxford University and the University of Pennsylvania and has worked for the British Civil Service and the European Commission. She is currently reading for a doctorate in English Literature at the University of York, where her research addresses the relationship between naming and identity in British literature of the late eighteenth century. She is also interested in a range of late twentieth century novelists, and in the relationship between creative and analytical writing.
Sophie has had short fiction published by the New Writer, the Momaya Annual Review and the Cheshire Prize for Literature. In 2011, she won Route Publishing's inaugural Next Great Author award, and her first novel Rites was published by Route in June 2012. In 2013 Sophie won a Northern Writers' Award, for fiction. She is currently working on her second novel.
