Will Loxley was born in south London in 1994 and moved to the Suffolk coast six years later - from a city of 9 million people, to a cottage backing onto horse paddocks, a move he found strange at the time. In 2017, while completing a master’s at University of Oxford, a lingering obsession with what it had felt like to be in London became his first proper idea for a book – Writing in the Dark, the story of a group of writers living in Bloomsbury during the Blitz.
