When timid Amelia Jones moves to Barkington, she struggles to adjust to her new life. One day, when out on a walk her family, Amelia meets a mysterious dog, Lucky, who brings the family to the Paw Pad, the local dog shelter.
But the Paw Pad is no ordinary dog shelter. When a child arrives, they choose a lead which magically pairs them with their perfect puppy. Shy Amelia is paired with Alfie, a mischievous labrador puppy. But Alfie's playful antics are a lot for Amelia to handle.
During a trip to the park, Amelia overhears that evil Mr Kat is planning to run for mayor so that he can close the Paw Pad and build a cat shelter instead! Will Amelia and Alfie be able to save the Paw Pad? And will Amelia and Alfie be the perfect friends?
